We Marry Our Unfinished Business: A Relationship Therapist on Patterns, Connection, and Starting Over
Host: Dr. Shawna Darou, ND
Kathleen Killen spent years in downtown Toronto working in public relations and marketing, and she was good at it. That was part of the problem.
The work exhausted her in a way she couldn't explain. Then her marriage ended, and she found herself on the kitchen floor, crying for an hour or more. At some point she realized she was the only one who could shift her life. She got up, ate something, went for a walk, returned a few phone calls. Small things. A few years later she was a practicing therapist with a practice that filled up within six months.
I've known Kathleen for more than twenty years, so this one was a real treat for me. Today she is a relationship therapist and coach who works mostly with couples, and she is wonderfully direct about what actually goes on underneath the fights we think are about communication.
In this episode of Unstoppable at Any Age, we talk about attachment patterns, why no single person can meet all your needs, what curiosity can do for a tense conversation, and how to keep growing when your partner is growing at a different pace.
